The Senons... Gauls tribe
There is a long time ago, in the deep forests of the Othe country, at the north of Alesia, lived the Senons tribe.
The Senons also called Senones formed one of the strong entity of the Celtic Gaul. They occupied the region of "Senonais", which took place on a part of the current departments of "Yonne" and "Seine-et-Marne". They gave their name to the town of "Sens" which was their capital under the name of "Agedincum".
Senons, whose name means the wise or the elders in Celtic, comes from the Gauls word « senos » which gave « sen » in British and « hen » in modern Breton, with the same meaning. To be called « Elders », was a way to affirm the anteriority, the primacy…
They controlled a large territory which was going between the south of the Champagne and the north of the Burgundy.
